An electrician is a person specializing in the wiring and distribution of electrical energy, usually for commercial purposes. Electricians can be hired to install new electrical equipment in establishments or the repair and maintenance of existing electrical machinery. Electricians are required for many different types of work that requires the employment of electricity in some form or another.
If you’re thinking of becoming an electrician, there are some basic things you must have prior to applying for a job. Generally, the requirements include: a high school diploma or GED, some level of practical experience, good analytical and problem-solving skills, a diploma in mechanical engineering, and good interpersonal skills. Some companies also require specific types of certifications, including the American Academy of Professional Engineers (AAPE) electrical contractor licensing exam, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certified electrical contractor.
Once you have acquired these skills, you may still want to acquire additional skills that can help you enhance your value in a particular position. Usually, Electrician jobs require at least a four-year degree, although more experience and education will help a candidate in his pursuit of a job as an electrician. Some Electrician jobs may require a combination of training and experience, while others may require only one or the other.
